2013 Final Standings

Updated 3rd January 2014

Pickwatch's overall regular season and postseason combined expert pick standings, comparing all of the NFL experts and their pick record in 2013. Table is updated to include week Super Bowl XLVIII expert picks. In the event of a tie, analysts are sorted by weekly records, starting with this week's results and working back to week 1. In the event they are still tied, I simply sort them by who has the nicest attitude to Pickwatch, and then by who takes themselves too seriously (this is a joke).

You can find this week's best expert NFL picks here and follow us on twitter for more NFL Pick'em related information.

In some cases records will not match up with their respective scores at their 'home' website, however this is often a result of an expert changing their pick on twitter or on TV. Please email us or tweet us if you wish us to check out a possible discrepancy. Ties are not counted.

    1. Hi anon. I'll be putting up a post requesting experts that people want to see tonight.

  2. Great site. It would be useful to have the weekly consensus picks in the overall standings. You show them for the week so I would think adding them to the overall would be ok

  3. Hi cycle11111 (damn those 11,110 other cycles who got there first!) - this is something we'll add this week as a number of people have asked for it now.

  4. The Prediction Machine says they're 93-40. Your site has them at 94 wins. Love the site!

  5. Hi anonymous - some of the picks this week were changed on twitter, while in this case CBS pulled the wrong data from PM. https://twitter.com/predictmachine/status/397476604542078976

  7. Funny Shaun on the 11111 - it started as 1 - 11 - 111 - 1111 - 11111. Just kept adding ones until it pooped up as unique

    1. How many poops do you have to check before you know it's unique or not?

  11. Ok....you corrected the week ...moving back to 9 from 15...and moved her down the standings.....but she still shows a 119 total....that should show 113...

  12. and you haven't answered as to why this even occurs. How many others are not correct, but just not so glaring as hers?? Who checks to ensure the integrity of the standings from week-to-week??

    1. Actually there's a very simple explanation - this week at the request of a reader I added the number of games for each week. I mistakenly typed '15' into Andrea's column for week 4. None of the other weeks are affected.

    1. Thanks, we most certainly will! The data from the regular season is obviously still a good way of working out whose picks are best to follow, but we'll be having a separate small competition for the playoffs. Most importantly we'll still have every pick in one place.

  16. Been holding off with the following comment all season but thought I'd throw it out there for consideration next year....the crux of it is...
If A** picker, B***picker, Nosepicker, Zitpicker all have the same percentage correct (and were fair and all picked the same # of Games)
Such as the11 pickers that scored 62.75% (including Pick Watch) they should all rank the same. Just because of a name, should one rank at 53rd and the other at 64th???...
I think a statistical distribution is in order. Coin toss should be ranked 33 out of 94 not 94 out of 94 because there are only 33 different %'s.
And I suggest that if any picker misses more that 1 week; and the only excuse is a family tragedy, they should be banished from consideration for the season and therefore the coveted PICKER CROWN. Simply because a picker could avoid picking the close games and get a better %. Just Sayin....

    1. Hey thanks for the suggestions.

First up, all experts are sorted by their Season win percentage, and then head to head tie-breakers going back to week 1 if necessary, as this can (but does not always) reflect who has been more accurate of late. So in the case of those on 157 wins, Allen beats Golic with 14 wins to 13, while Golic beats the Yahoo and ESPN users with 13 to their 12. We then have to go back each week until week 13 to find that Yahoo users had more wins that week. That rule applies to all, in fact we try not to use A-Z apart from in the early weeks where there are a lot of tie breakers. I take your point however, that in effect all of those are on the same win % for the season.

I have long deliberated what to do when people miss picks. It's such a strange one, because in the example of Matt Smith from NFL Network, he's actually pretty good at picking games. At first I penalised him, but I then realised that his win % was still good information for those who use these standings as a gauge of who to trust. Next year we'll be incorporating a few more experts who perhaps don't pick 'every' game.

Think about it like this: If you knew a guy was picking 100% of games correct, but he only picked half of the games in a season, wouldn't you rather know his correct pick %? I know I would.

Definitely interesting points and I totally welcome any input for next year. In fact, I'm hopeful that you will be able to create your own tables and rankings based on whatever criteria you find most useful.

      Hope that helps, Shaun

  17. I understand the rankings more fully now, but still not sure I'd wanna put much faith in a picker that picks only the games he/she/it chooses because those games might be only the "easy" games.
Kinda like the guy that shows up to work only when the "easy" jobs are scheduled and gets a bonus ("the pickers' crown") for performing well on the easy jobs.
But I'll take your point and base my choices on the criteria I select....Thanks.
BTW-this is about my 10th post this year-
    Great site-great job!!!

    1. Awesome, really glad you like it.

Take your point on the 'easy picks'. We'll find a way to sort that out next year, I can already think of a few ways off the top of my head so shouldn't be too hard. In theory...
